Aluminum fencing delivers the classic look of wrought iron without the rust, weight, and ongoing maintenance. NMI Fence Supply carries a full range of ornamental aluminum fence panels, posts, gates, and railing systems in residential, commercial, and industrial grades — all backed by manufacturer warranties and available at wholesale contractor pricing.
Aluminum fencing is manufactured in three primary grades, each designed for specific applications:
All aluminum fence panels are electrostatically powder coated for a durable, fade-resistant finish. Standard colors include black, bronze, white, and hunter green. The powder coating is applied after fabrication and cured at high temperature, creating a finish that resists chipping, peeling, and UV degradation. Premium manufacturers offer 20-year or lifetime warranties on their powder coat finishes.
Aluminum fence is the most popular choice for pool enclosures because it meets BOCA pool code requirements when configured correctly. Pool code panels feature a maximum picket spacing of 1-3/4" (preventing a 4" sphere from passing through), no climbable horizontal rails, and self-closing/self-latching gate hardware. Always verify local code requirements, as some jurisdictions enforce stricter standards.
When installing aluminum fence on a slope, you have two options. Racking adjusts the pickets within the panel frame to follow the grade — this creates a clean, parallel-to-ground appearance. Most panels can rack up to a 12-inch rise over an 8-foot span. For steeper slopes, stair-stepping maintains level panels with gaps underneath, which are filled with additional pickets or left open depending on the application.
Aluminum fence panels are available in a variety of spear top designs: pressed point, trident, quad flare, ring top, and flat top. Flat top panels are required for pool code compliance and are popular for modern architectural styles. Gate options include single swing, double swing, sliding, and cantilever configurations with matching spear tops and hardware. For post layout recommendations, see our fence post spacing guide.
Aluminum fence will not rust, weighs significantly less, and requires no maintenance. Wrought iron is heavier and stronger but requires regular sanding, priming, and painting to prevent rust. Aluminum is also more affordable. For most residential and commercial applications, aluminum provides the same ornamental appearance as wrought iron without the drawbacks.
BOCA pool code requires that no sphere greater than 4 inches can pass through any opening in the fence. This translates to a maximum picket spacing of approximately 1-3/4" between pickets. Pool code panels also eliminate horizontal rails that could serve as footholds, and gates must be self-closing and self-latching. Always check local codes for specific requirements.
No. Aluminum does not rust. It naturally forms an oxide layer that protects against corrosion. Combined with powder coating, aluminum fence is virtually maintenance-free in all climates, including coastal and high-humidity environments where steel or iron would corrode rapidly.
Aluminum fence requires almost no maintenance. An occasional rinse with a garden hose keeps it looking new. The powder coat finish resists fading, chipping, and peeling. There is no need to paint, stain, or treat aluminum fencing. In coastal areas, a freshwater rinse after salt exposure is recommended.
Residential (Grade B) uses 5/8" pickets and 1" rails — suitable for homes and light-duty use. Commercial (Grade C) steps up to 3/4" pickets and 1-1/4" rails, providing greater strength for high-traffic areas, parks, and institutional properties. Industrial (Grade A) uses 1" pickets and 1-3/4" rails for maximum security and durability.
Yes. Aluminum panels can be racked (angled) to follow slopes of up to about 12 inches of rise over an 8-foot panel. For steeper grades, panels are stair-stepped with level panels at each tier. Some manufacturers offer specific rackable panel designs that allow greater adjustment angles.
